Aurora

Often in Williamsburg you'll learn that the further you move away from the nexus of Bedford and North 7th the more likely it is that you'll find a place you can claim for yourself. For Italian dining that consistently raises the bar that place is Aurora. Here, aperitivos compete with the main courses for making a lasting impression on one's palate. The desserts are delightful and the dessert wines are a perfect afterwork activity. On a balmy weekend afternoon it would be best to brunch outside in their comfy patio.

Bedford Cheese Shop

From the Bedford Cheese Site:

Maybe the best way to tell you about The Bedford Cheese Shop is to tell you what we aren’t. We aren’t a supermarket that happens to sell cheese. Nor are we part of a big chain, or owned by a multi-national corporation. And we aren’t an e-tailer that’s just in the business of selling cheese online out of a huge warehouse. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Domino Sugar Factory

The factory was originally built in 1857, when the company of Havemeyer, Townsend and Company was founded. William and Frederick Havemeyer, the founding Havemeyers from whom the company got its name, had previously been employees of Seaman and Company, which had been the very first sugar processing company in New York, opening its first sugar boiler on Pine St in 1799.

Serious Coffee Comes to Williamsburg
Posted by Nina Lalli at 2:23 PM, February 4, 2008

A very serious, very well-located coffee bar opened today in Williamsburg. El Beit, on Bedford between 8th and 9th streets, gave coffee away all weekend in order to welcome the neighbors and practice their service routine. We stopped in for a delicious latte on Saturday, and tried to keep up with Dan Griffin, the manager, who taught us all about the beans.

Marlow & Sons

Café by day, raw bar and restaurant by night, this quirky Williamsburg canteen is the latest venture from the owners of Diner, the American bistro next door.

And even though it is ideally situated to absorb Diner's overflow and ply them with retro cocktails and briny oysters, the dimly lit, wood-paneled space has been forging a cozy Mediterranean-accented identity of its own.
