The Rhinelander Mansion, Ralph Lauren’s Madison Avenue flagship store, is among the few remaining turn-of-the-century great homes in Manhattan. One of New York’s finest architectural treasures, the building was originally designed in the 1890s by Kimball & Thompson but was eventually abandoned by its owners and fell into disrepair. In 1983, Ralph Lauren began an extensive renovation project on the mansion to re-create the classic opulence of the original structure.

The store is unrivaled in quality in terms of preservation, architecture and design—every room contains authentic antiques, fixtures, art and furniture, which are used to create its marvelous ambiance. A perfect showcase for the timeless style of Ralph Lauren, the mansion’s cinematic décor and outstanding customer service create an unprecedented shopping experience.

Among its notable architectural and design details, this store includes one of the largest hand-carved staircases in the United States—crafted by European artisans on-site. Moldings were hand-cast to recreate the mansion’s authentic details, as in the men’s dressing room, which features musical instruments along the ceiling of what was once reserved as a music room. Antique Persian rugs, vintage objects and Vuitton trunks embellish rooms decorated with cashmere upholstery, camel hair drapes, authentic baccarat chandeliers and Lalique panels from the original Polo Lounge. And throughout the store, the art collection astounds. Each room is finished with exquisite artwork from the Ralph Lauren collection. This store contains an expansive collection of 18th and 19th century oil portraiture, noteworthy photography, and on our Home Collection floor we showcase artwork on loan from local galleries, which changes each season.

This is all created in an effort to inspire and showcase a luxurious backdrop for the clothing and accessories Ralph Lauren offers each season.

From the majestic architecture and dramatic interior, to the unparalleled customer service we provide, the Rhinelander Mansion is more than a store, more than a museum—it is the ultimate retail experience.
