STARRETT CIY BOXING CLUB
Founded: 1978
Executive Director/Founder: Jimmy O

1506 Hornell Loop
Brooklyn, NY‎ 11239
(718) 642-1277‎

Starrett City Boxing Club was founded in 1978 by Executive Director "Jimmy O", who is a former boxer and is certified as a Coach and Trainer by the United States Amateur Boxing Federation.  In addition, SCBC Coaches are, or have been involved in the sport of boxing and other sports for many years.

Since inception, many of our youth have competed in the N.Y. Golden Gloves Amateur Competition, the NY Empire State Games, Police Athletic Boxing Tournaments and local contests.

Based in the East NY Section of Brooklyn, SCBC has served the needs of it's members from all neighborhoods and ethnic backgrounds over the years and we have been invited annually by the Brooklyn Borough President's office to present boxing exhibition-bouts in Prospect Park as part of the "Back to Brooklyn" celebration.

Our intent is to rescue young men and women from the atmosphere of hopelessness that seems to pervade areas of high crime and high unemployment by contributing to the bolstering of self-esteem and building individual confidence and character through systematic training in the value of discipline and the acquisition of skills in areas that are relevant to a variety of sports activities.   The achievements of our members include, but are not limited to, progress in learning and adapting to rules and regulations, an acquired willingness to assist and support each other and to assume responsibility for their own actions as well as for other human beings.

It is hoped that these traits will be projected into their school environment and to the community at large.  In addition, each member is assisted with and encouraged to improve they're physical dexterity and coordination.
